Aves de Ubatuba

A Mata Atlântica abriga a maior biodiversidade do mundo, garante o abastecimento de água para 120 milhões de pessoas, protege a estabilidade das encostas, contribui para o equilíbrio do clima e é uma das cinco áreas naturais mais ameaçadas do planeta.Atualmente resta apenas 7% do seu território original e o maior território continuo de Mata Atlântica encontra-se no estado de São Paulo. Seja por especulação imobiliária ou pressão antrópica, este imenso patrimônio
ambiental, histórico e cultural sofre constantes e inevitáveis ameaças.

A Mata Atlântica ocupa em Ubatuba mais de 90% da sua área territorial possibilitando ao município a melhor expressão desta riqueza ambiental.As aves são a primeira sinalizadoras do uso dado ao Ambiente e nesta pequena porção do território nacional chamada Ubatuba, podemos observar 30% das aves brasileiras e 5% de toda avifauna do planeta.

Já foi registrado em Ubatuba mais de 500 espécies de aves. Isto é uma marca histórica! O número é mágico, não há outro município que tenha a mesma marca. Esta pequena porção do nosso imenso território brasileiro abriga cerca de 30% de todas as aves do Brasil e mais de 5% de todas as aves existentes no planeta!

IV Festival Observação de Aves

Este ano acontece o IV Festival de Observação de Aves de Ubatuba. a região é considerada uma das melhores do munda para esta atividade do ecoturismo.

Ilha Anchieta

Um dos passeios mais procurados em Ubatuba é o de escuna. E dentre os passeios de escuna, a visita à Ilha Anchieta merece destaque especial. O passeio de escuna em si já é uma delícia. A duração é de cerca de 30 minutos, com belíssimo visual da Ilha Anchieta e da baía da Enseada. As operadoras de passeios de escuna normalmente incluem em seu programa uma visitação às Ruínas do Antigo Presídio e o Museu do Mar. Os grupos são acompanhados de monitores ambientais preparados para contar as incríveis histórias do passado da Ilha e de sua importância como paraíso ecológico.

E para completar um dia de intenso lazer, os visitantes tem tempo livre para conhecer algumas praias da Ilha como Engenho, Palmas, Sapateiro e Presídio, e a piscina natural da Ilha. Para acessar algumas delas o caminho pode ser feito por trilhas em meio à Mata Atlântica, trilhas essas bastante leves e prazerosas. São praias diferentes e exóticas, pois estão em área de preservação ambiental, protegidas pelo Parque Estadual da Ilha Anchieta, que administra o Local.

Praia da Enseada / Enseada Beach

A Praia da Enseada tem mar de águas tranqüilas e seu público é bastante familiar, principalmente por conta das boas estruturas para hospedagem, comercial e turística desta praia. É uma praia que conta com excelente infra-estrutura. A estrutura comercial também é excelente: vários supermercados, farmácias, lojas e comércio de todo tipo. Para o turista, diversas opções em restaurantes, pizzarias, bares de praia, operadoras e garagens náuticas, fazendo da Enseada uma praia bastante autônoma.

Enseada Beach has calm waters and attracts especially families. It also has great infra-structure with supermarkets, hotels, drugstore, restaurants, pizzarias, beach bars, marinas, making it a self-sufficient beach.

Atrações
Uma das atrações da Enseada são os passeios de escuna, muitos indo até a Ilha Anchieta que é avistada bem em frente à praia. Para quem curte ecoturismo, no canto direito da praia começa uma trilha leve e pitoresca, a trilha para a Praia de Fora.

Attractions
Enseada offers full day and half day schooner trips to different beaches, including "Sete Fontes Beach", only accessed by boat and to Anchieta Island, which can easily be seen from the beach itself. For the ones who enjoy walking in the nature, the hike to Praia de Fora is not to be missed!

WHAT TO DO IN UBATUBA

Refresh in a waterfall
Go to one or some of the waterfalls in Ubatuba: Prumirim, Macacos, da Renata and others, all located within 25 minutes of the house.

Marvel at sea turtles
Grown-ups and kids will enjoy getting up close to sea turtles at the Ubatuba unit of Projeto Tamar, Brazil's most important sea turtle conservation project. Located in the Itaguá neighborhood. Projeto Tamar is visited by about 100,000 people every year. In the emerald green waters of Ubatuba, the green turtles can easily be spotted ,especially at the beach of Casa do Pier!

Visit the Ubatuba Aquarium
The Ubatuba Aquarium has exhibitions from a mangrove to live penguins.

Find a secluded beach
Ubatuba has 92 beaches, some of which are deserted or almost deserted. Sete Fontes, Prainha da Enseada, Mansa, Caçandoca, Caçandoquinha, Bonete, Cedro do Centro, Praia de Fora, Brava da Almada, are some of the best for all tastes: some with shallow clear waters and others with high waves. In 2008, readers of Brazil travel website “Viaje Aqui” voted for the beaches Cedro and Brava da Almada as two of the 10 most beautiful deserted beaches in Brazil.

Go surfing or bodyboarding
Itamambuca is the reason for Ubatuba´s nickname "Capital of Surf" and is often featured on ESPN during international surf championships. But there are many other beaches, including the left corner of Praia Grande and Toninhas. Surf boards for rent and surf lessons are also available.

Go scuba diving
Ubatuba’s islands, such as Ilha Anchieta, Ilha Vitória and Ilha do Prumirim, offer some of the area’s best diving. There are several diving operators. The name of one of the scuba operators is...you guessed it: "Scubatuba"!

Visit the Fish Market
Everyday of the week the freshest catch of the day is available for you! Not only fish but also seafood, including shrimp in all sizes. You can put together your own sashimi with local fishes.

Go on a hike
Part of Ubatuba is inside the limits of the Picinguaba Nucleus of Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar, one of the São Paulo conservation areas managed by the Forest Institute. Trails through the rainforest lead to waterfalls and ruins of an old sugar mill. You’ll meet members of a guarani indigenous community and local caiçaras. There are also beach trails, like Trilha da Praia de Fora and Trilha das Sete Fontes.
Schedule treks with A.M.E.U., a well-known and experienced group of ecotourism guides.

Try local flavors
Curious about regional food? Try azul marinho ("navy blue"), the dish of the local fisherman communities (caiçaras). Although it may look exotic, you know all the ingredients in the recipe. Order azul marinho at well-known seafood restaurants in central Ubatuba, near the airport: "Peixe com Banana" (named for the two main ingredients in the dish); or "O Rei do Peixe" , where you can also order a delicious shrimp stuffed fish, called “ Peixe a Moda”. They also serve the “Sequencia de Camarão”, a real treat for shrimp lovers, being a big portion of different local shrimp recipes. Do not miss Rocha ice cream. Founded in 1947, "Sorveteria Rocha" is a North Shore can't-miss with ice cream shops in Ubatuba, São Sebastião and Ilhabela. They also have the kilo section in which you serve yourself and weight your ice-cream in the end. "Sucolândia" honors its name – Juice Land. with more than 40 kinds of fruit juices and smoothies, including the ubiquitous açaí na tigela – açaí in the bowl. You’ll find a tempting array of handcrafted sweets at Tachão de Ubatuba.

Stroll around the Ubatuba Craft Fair in the evening.
Members of the indigenous Guarani community near Pumirim sometimes sell their crafts at the beach.

Take a schooner tour Praia da Enseada and Itagua are the best places to catch your schooner for a either a full or half a day trip. Most of them will have a bar where you can buy a refreshing beverage.

Climb the Corcovado peak
Ubatuba's "Pico do Corcovado" , one of the highest peaks in the area, can be reached by a steep and badly marked trail leaving from Praia Dura. Don't go alone - book guides through the Tourist Information.

Visit a museum
Check out the vintage cars at Museu do Automóvel, it is really small but still fun.

Enjoy the night
The best high season clubbing is at "180° ". Party long enough to catch at least one sunrise in Ubatuba. For year-long, all-night live music, go to Coyote Bar. Or just walk around on the busy beaches - free fun!

Como chegar / How to get there:

O acesso é feito pela rodovia Rio-Santos (SP 055/BR-101). A partir de São Paulo pode-se pegar a rodovia dos Trabalhadores (Ayrton Sena) e continuar na Rodovia Carvalho Pinto, descendo a serra via Rodovia dos Tamoios(SP-099) ou pela Rodovia Osvaldo Cruz, a sinuosa Serra de Taubaté (SP-125). Partindo do Rio de Janeiro pode-se chegar a Ubatuba através da Rodovia Rio-Santos (BR-101) ou pela Rodovia Pres. Dutra e descer a serra pela SP-099 ou SP-125.

From São Paulo/Guarulhos Airport take the Ayrton Senna Highway until exit 96, following the Tamois Road (SP-099) until Caraguatatuba and then follow signs to Ubatuba. From Rio, take the Rio - Santos highway (BR-101) until Praia da Enseada.

What to bring

Casual beach wear is pretty much the only thing you will wear here, so pack light! If you have plans to do some hiking, tennis or hiking shoes are recommended. The Havaianas flip-flops are found here in every corner and it is the number one footwear in Ubatuba!

Like in any other tropical destination it is good to take sun block, repellent, hat, sunglassesand light clothes. Quite convenient is that the supermarket in Enseada Beach is open daily, including on Sundays, so you can always buy anything you need or forgot here as well.

No matter the season of the year you are visiting us, the weather along the "Serra do Mar", the mountain range along the shore, can change very fast. So always pack a light jacket and/or a rain jacket to play on the safe side.
